On Wednesday 26th August 2015 Nationwide Building Society staff members came to the N&LR to lend a hand as part of their corporate volunteering scheme.

The N&LR facilitators, Grahame Every, David Millard & Brian Chambers were astonded to learn that the volunteers had come from far & wide to lend a hand, namely: Cheshire, Birmingham and Glasgow!

As seen major transformations can be seen after a few hours of teamwork; this time several projects were progressed further and the photographs show the dramatic improvements achieved.

The projects were:

  • Painting the Engineering containers close to the entrance and to enhance the railway’s entrace area, note only the door ends are awaiting the treatment now.
  • Cleaning and repainting two spare BR B5 Bogies that are earmarked to be installed under our BR Mark 2 coaches in the near future. One is ready for the Chief Engineer now.
  • The completion of a coach deep cleaning project (for the passenger serive stock), with the use of upholstery cleaners and a general mop and surface wipe down.
  • NLRPS BR Mark 1 TSO M3919 deep cleaning commenced.

Additionally there were other N&LR volunteer working member preparing for the August Bank Holiday special event and giving members of the public tours of the Pitsford & Brampton station site whilst publicing the next running days.

Many thanks to those who took part in the day. The N&LR hopes you all made it home safely after a fun day!
