School Visits

Are you planning on teaching the topic of Transport or looking for school trip ideas with a difference?

Northampton & Lamport Railway offer a fantastic, fun and safe environment for learning about railways. We offer primary school trips for between 40-70 pupils which cover a variety of topics that can be tailored to your needs, but can include:

  • Being safe around the railway,
  • The history of railways,
  • Looking at one of our steam locos (and/or traction engine) and learning how they work,
  • Looking at one of our heritage diesel locos and seeing how railway technology has advanced over the years,
  • Learning about signalling and getting some hand on experience “pulling some levers” in the signal box.

How the trip works

The day involves students moving between different information points where they receive a talk and/or demonstration from one of our expert volunteers. There will be opportunities for some hands-on experiences along the way!

Students also have the chance to eat their packed lunches on the train coaches.

If you wish to hire a train to run on the day of your visit, we can arrange this too.

Prices

Option One (6x information points, eating lunch on the train in the platform): £8.50 per head (minimum 40 pupils)

Option Two (6x information points, eating lunch on the train in the platform, plus a diesel-hauled train ride along our 2-mile line): £750+VAT (max 70 pupils).

Bespoke packages can also be tailored to your needs. Please contact us for discuss.
